How do I use&store my helmet?

Jan,2024

1. Choose the right helmet

(1) Helmet size: You should choose the appropriate size according to your head circumference. The helmet should fit snugly but not compress the head or cause discomfort.

(2) Helmet quality: Choose helmets that meet safety standards, such as CE standards, ECE standards, etc. High-quality helmet materials can provide better protection.

(3) Helmet ventilation: Skiing will make people sweat, so the ventilation of the head is very important. Choose a helmet with a good ventilation system to keep the head dry and comfortable.

2. Wear the helmet correctly

(1)Adjust the lining cushion

Basically all helmets have padding inside, first to cushion and second to absorb sweat. They are usually installed with Velcro, so they are very easy to disassemble and adjust. Remember to remove these pads and wash them when you have time to extend their service life.

(2)Tighten the buckle

The buckle is the main way to fix the helmet and is generally not removable. You must tighten the buckle and fix it to one end of the helmet before wearing it.

(3) Test whether it is tight

How to check whether it is tightened? Lower your head and tilt forward, and make sure it does not fall when the buckle is untied.

(4) Understand how fasteners work

There are generally two working methods of fasteners at present, the latch type and the magnetic suction type. Learning to fasten and unfasten skillfully is a very necessary step and skill.

(5) Adjust the tightness of the chin and fix it

Place the center of the helmet's side straps under your ears while making sure the straps are comfortable around both ears.

After the buckle is fastened, you can adjust the tightness of the entire buckle. Hold one end and twitch the tail of the other end of the strap to easily tighten the buckle.

The straps do not need to be too tight because the lining has already done the work of fixing the head, and being too tight will cause discomfort.

(6) The helmet is worn correctly on the head

If the helmet is too far back, your forehead will be exposed and the protection of the helmet will be lost.

A helmet that is too forward will block your vision.

The perfect position is one finger's distance from the top edge of your eyebrow to the bottom edge of your helmet.

Of course, it must be reiterated in the end that the prerequisite for wearing a helmet perfectly is to buy a helmet with the right size.

3. Helmet storage issues and precautions

A motorcycle helmet is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment. It is your first line of defense against serious injury in the event of an accident, so you need to make sure you treat it with care. So you need to make sure you treat it with care. Most helmets last up to five or seven years, but that doesn't mean they aren't subject to daily wear and tear. So, how do you protect it?

(1)Temperature and humidity

Racing helmets should not be exposed to extreme temperatures and high humidity.

Prolonged high temperatures may cause the padding and foam inside the helmet to deteriorate, thereby affecting the protective performance of the helmet.

Therefore, when storing helmets, we should choose to avoid environments with too high or too low temperatures while maintaining moderate humidity.

(2)Sun exposure

Ultraviolet rays from sunlight can damage the shell and coating of a helmet, reducing its impact resistance.

Therefore, we should try to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun when storing helmets. You can choose to store your helmet in the shade or use a dedicated helmet bag to block the sun.

(3)Extrusion

Avoid placing heavy objects on the helmet, as this may easily cause the helmet shell to deform or be damaged, thereby affecting the protective effect of the helmet.

When storing your helmet, make sure it is in a stress-free condition, preferably on a flat surface.

(4) Keep clean and hygienic

Helmet shells and visors are usually made of special materials that are not resistant to chemical corrosion.

Therefore, when we store the helmet, we must avoid contact with chemicals containing alcohol, solvents, etc., to avoid damaging the appearance and performance of the helmet.

There's nothing quite like hitting the open road on your bike or motorcycle, just don't forget your helmet! Always remember the importance of a helmet and follow correct usage and storage methods to ensure you are always safe on the track!
